How to train Liuhebafa
How to train Liuhebafa Liuhebafa, which was said to be created by Chenbo, is an ancient and excellent kind of martial art that has been passed down. It enjoys the same great reputation as Shaolin Kongfu created by Master. Damo and Shadowboxing created by ZhangSanfeng. In modern time, WuYihui, who inherited the theory of Liuhebafa and promoted its development, published some paper about Liuhebafa. In the twenties of last century, he taught people who joined Shanghai Youngsters' Union. So photos and ways of training, Liuhebafa had been wide-spread. Even nowadays, many foreign friends come all the way to Shanghai to learn Liuhebafa. In the purpose of carrying forward and strengthening this ancient Chinese boxing, I 'm now, as always, trying my best to teach lots of people Liuhebafa without thinking of my own benefits. Here, I want to share with you the experiences I have through years of teaching. Respected opinions and suggestions are welcomed. Firstly, your training should follow an order and you should preserve training, then you can advance in a step-by-step manner. I have experience of teaching different people Liuhebafa. I found that though they might be different in their age, body conditions, education level or basis of learning martial art, as long as they follow this principle, studying the movements everyday, practicing it diligently, using their mind instead of strength, then they can make progress. Generally, people, who have experience of practicing martial art and have high perception of it, can learn the whole set of movements within 1 or 2 months. The others can also learn it from 3 to 6 months. What I want to emphasize is that some beginners may be eager to succeed, but a saying goes that "the more haste, the less speed". Learners, especially the beginners should think about and practice every movement carefully. Secondly, you must use your mind instead strength When you start to practice Liuhebafa, you should be calm and concentrated even from the first movement, for only by being calm and concentrated, you can use your mind to control the "Chi" in your body, then use the "Chi " to control your body. It's the object to practice the whole set of movements that you should use your mind to control your movement rather than your strength, so forget using your strength when you practice. In addition, you should recite and understand the "5-word knack" --several sentences reflecting the essence of Liuhebafa and every sentence is expressed by 5 words. Then, you should penetrate the essence of the "5-word knack" into your movement. With your persistence, you can finally arrive in a state that you are infatuated with it. At that time, you can not only protect yourself but also prolong your life. Thirdly, you should also learn stand styles and push hands to serves as auxiliary trainings of practicing Liuhebafa. For Beginners, their "Chi" usually can't reach their feet. So if the movements change, their upper body will easily tilt to one side and their legs will tremble. In order to strengthen physical strength, we can learn stand styles, push hands to serve as auxiliary trainings of practicing Liuhebafa. Stand styles can be divided into 2 kinds: one is that you stand at a fixed point without any change of your posture; the other is that when you practice stand styles, you should change your posture in an order. Here, I want to introduce the former kind of stand styles briefly: Posture: the distance of your feet should be the same as the width of your shoulder and your feet should be parallel to your shoulder. Imagine that you are holding a big ball, your palms are opposite and your hands are in front of your chest. Actions: looking at front, and your toes paw the ground slightly. Your knees can not exceed the vertical line of your toes. Then concentrate on your respiration and try to understand the affinity and repulsive force between your palms. Frequency: each time when you practice your stand style, you should train for 20 to 30 minutes, once or twice each day. Efforts: training stand style for quiet a long time can make your trunk straight, increasing your strength of feet and hands and stabilizing your body's movement. Then, I will tell you something about how to push hands. The essence of Liuhebafa is that you should use your mind instead of strength while practicing. So we can learn push hands to train and also check the accuracy and flexibility of what we've learned. The experts of pushing hands usually don't aim to defeat the others by give them a great force or launch a rapid attack. In the process of pushing hands, actually, they are shifting the supporting point of their body, thus making muscles relaxed. Last, you can cultivate your morality through the training. Before your study of martial art, you should have a clear and reasonable idea of why you choose to 1. You should respect your teacher and classmates; only by being unobtrusive can you learn from others' strong points to offset your weakness. 2. You should always be unobtrusive no matter what attribute you've made. 3. You should practice Liuhebafa diligently and persistently, or it will be a waste of time. 4. You shouldn't despise people who learn this kind of martial art from the others, because it's a reckless conduct to label the trainers.
